Dr Yu is an assistant professor at the Department of Radiology, Radio-oncology and Nuclear Medicine at the Université de Montréal and Independent Researcher at the Centre de recherche du centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal since 08/2017. Dr Yu received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering in 2001 from the École Polytechnique de Montréal, Canada, and his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2010 from the Université de Montréal. He has a strong background in high frequency ultrasound imaging of diseases associated with blood rheological disorders, including diabetes, atherosclerotic plaque characterization, and deep vein thrombosis. He pursued his postodoctoral training at the Center for Ultrasound Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics at the University of Pittsburgh where he developed an expertise in the use of MB (US contrast agent) for diagnostic and therapeutic application in cardiology and oncology.

Dr Yu is the director of the Microbubble Theranostics Laboratory Unit, which is affiliated to the Laboratory of Biorheology and Medical Ultrasonics (visit               ) in the Imaging and Engineering Axis at the CRCHUM.

Specifically, Dr Yu’s research interests focus on developing spatially targeted therapeutic strategies using MBs externally triggered by therapeutic US and monitored using US imaging forming a versatile theranostic platform. In particular, he is interested in elucidating the signaling pathways and harnessing the physiological response following ultrasound stimulated microbubble oscillations to create clinically translatable theranostic targeted therapies. In his laboratory, there are opportunities to work at many levels of research and technological development, including US pulsing and image processing, microbubble synthesis, in vitro validation, in vivo rodent animal models, human bio-samples, cell culture and molecular biology techniques. This multidisciplinary environment contributes to shape a unique perspective on opportunities and challenges for novel theranostic developments.
